Franklin County Court of Common Pleas

The Franklin County Court of Common Pleas is the trial level court for Franklin County, Ohio, hearing criminal felony cases and civil cases as well as juvenile cases and domestic disputes, such as divorce. Here, a defendant can be tried in front of a jury of his or her peers and the penalties can be very serious, so it is crucial to have a strong litigation attorney on your side.
Being a state run court, all of the judges are elected officials. Currently, there are 17 judges running concurrent trials in the courthouse. Having a strong familiarity with this court and a good understanding of the courts, the lawyers at Funkhouser Law will personally guide clients through every step of the process, keeping them well-informed and protect them and their rights.
The Arraignment
Before a trial begins, a defendant will receive a letter in the mail to appear at an arraignment. At the arraignment, the judge will simply read the charges brought against the defendant, to which the defendant pleads either guilty or not guilty. Defendants should be present at the arraignment along with their attorney.

The General Division
The General Division presides over all felony cases and civil cases where the dispute involves money in an amount exceeding $15,000.

This division hears all divorce, dissolution, legal separation and annulment cases, civil domestic violence cases and post decree matters as well as juvenile cases involving persons under the age of 18 and cases dealing with unruly, abused and neglected children, and jurisdiction in adult cases involving paternity, child abuse, nonsupport, visitation, custody and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
