Many people believe that these bright yellow plates with red lettering will deter drunk driving simply because of shame. Even though the amount of yellow plates issued went up from 4,709 in 2005 to 5,167 in 2007, the plates can still prove to be life changing. The executive director of MADD Ohio, Doug Scoles, believes that the yellow plates are having a positive affect on drunk driving. He says that statistics show that alcohol related automotive fatalities have declined since the law for the yellow plates has been passed 4 years ago. Drivers become more careful around cars with yellow plates. Since the population knows what this means, drivers tend to stay safe distances away from these drivers. |
