Mandatory Yellow Plates
Under specific circumstances, a motorist convicted of drunk driving will be required to use “restricted plates”—these are yellow license plates with red lettering placed on a vehicle registered in the name of the convicted driver. Drivers required to use restricted plates are drivers with:
- BAC level was over .17%
- a drunk driving conviction within the past 6 years
- a refusal for the breathalyzer test and have a drunk driving conviction within the past 20 years.
Use of the restricted plates may last as long as the driver’s license suspension.
