Ohio Boosts Price of Traffic Tickets, Fails to Inform MotoristsOhio drivers are being faced with a nasty surprise when they go to pay their traffic violation tickets. An additional $10 is being tacked on to the ticket. However, police are not making this clear when they pull drivers over, and the envelopes that are handed out do not list the extra $10 in the price of the fine. Therefore, the state of Ohio is finding itself in a bit of a dilemma. Officials are having to re-notify drivers of the additional $10, and when the offenders do not pay, they must face drivers’ license suspension, heavier fines or even arrest. The state has posted the change on its web site, and has begun to implement slips of pink paper, explaining the new fee, that are stuffed into the old envelope, which has been used since 1990. The collected money is going to fund educational programs for drunk drivers and various substance abuse support groups. New envelopes are being printed to include the new $10 fee, but in the meantime, over 50 percent of the traffic offenders are not paying the fine, saying that they are being hit twice for one offense.
